Fire at Farnhill Hall - August 1835
Fire at Farnhill Hall - About 11 o'clock on Saturday evening last, a barn, perhaps the largest in the county, in the occupation of Mr James Hargreaves, of Farnhill Hall near Skipton, was discovered to be on fire.
Messages were immediately dispatched for the Skipton Fire Engine, but before it was possible for it to be conveyed to the spot the flames spread with such rapidity that the roof fell in.
A large portion of the hay was consumed and a number of farming implements were destroyed.
The damage done is supposed to amount to upwards of £2,000 but we are happy to learn that the hay, etc., was insured in the Alliance Fire Office.
